A harrowing experience
Cheers to the Philippine Daily Inquirer for its nightmarish first-person account on securing an exit clearance from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
“I am now a full-fledged OFW (overseas Filipino worker). I share a common bond with thousands of overseas Filipino workers who had no choice but to get an exit clearance from the (POEA) and, in the process, experienced what would possibly be one of our worst encounters with government bureaucracy,” former Inquirer News Service head Stella Ruth O. Gonzales began her piece “Exit clearance: An OFW’s nightmare”. (July 7, p. A1)
Gonzales wrote how hard it was to get an exit clearance, a requirement for Filipinos who want to work overseas. The whole process took her three days.
Along with her essay was a sidebar explaining what an exit clearance is.
