Some attempts
Cheers to the media for some serious attempts to explain the Reproductive Health Bill or House Bill 4244 (full text of RH bill here – http://www.newsbreak.ph/2011/05/20/full-text-of-hb-4244-the-reproductive-health-bill/) .
The Harapan (Face Off) by ANC and ABS-CBN 2 last May 7 and The Grand Debate by GMANews TV last May 23, provided an avenue for people, whether pro or anti, to explain their side and defend their beliefs. ANC’s Harapan was an open discussion on the RH Bill with different sector representatives. The Grand Debate was more structured and only gave specific questions to the debaters regarding on their specifications.
On the other hand, Newsbreak’s “The RH Debate” special provided articles related to the bill. The special provided the public more information, related reports on reproductive health such as “Sagada, Bontoc have own reproductive health laws” and airing supportive and repressive views about the issue.
The RH Bill is being debated in the legislative body of the Philippines for almost 18 years with six versions filed in the 15th Congress.
