Photojournalist, veteran broadcaster receive Rotary Awards
A veteran broadcast journalist and a multi-awarded photojournalist were among the 16 personalities cited at this year’s Rotary Club Vocational Excellence Award.
The Rotary Club cited 24 Oras anchor and radio commentator Mike Enriquez and Philippine Daily Inquirer photographer Edwin Bacasmas for their contributions to broadcasting and photojournalism, respectively.
An Inquirer news release said Zamboanga del Sur native Bacasmas has covered “conflicts, disasters, triumphs and tragedies as well as the heroism of ordinary people”. His career as a photojournalist has spanned four administrations, including the four-month-old Benigno Aquino III administration.
This year, Bacasmas was brought to the Catholic Mass Media Awards’ Hall of Fame, the first to be elevated in the Best News Photo category.
Also GMA Network’s Senior Vice President for Radio, Enriquez has been working for the network since 1995. He has since been host of radio commentary program Saksi sa Dobol B at GMA-7’s AM radio station dzBB, and anchor for news programs Saksi, GMA Network News, and of late, 24 Oras. Enriquez also hosts the public affairs program Imbestigador on the same station. In 2000, he won Best News Presenter in the Asian Television Awards.
The Rotary Vocational Excellence Award is given by the Rotary Club districts in Quezon City to men and women whose “significant contributions in public service, business, professions, and social and economic development that benefit the nation and communities.”
The awardees received their citations in a ceremony held at Camp Aguinaldo on Nov. 4.
