ABS-CBN’s Mike Navallo Honored with JVO Award of Distinction; Jodesz Gavilan of Rappler is Marshall McLuhan Fellow for 2023

CMFR HELD the Jaime V. Ongpin Journalism Seminar in person on Thursday, October 19, the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The seminar featured a panel of five journalists from television and online news sites who discussed concerns about the media and the news environment.
The program is supported with a grant from the National Endowment for Democracy and with the cooperation of Ateneo de Manila University.

These journalists join the roster of Jaime V. Ongpin Journalism Fellows, a community of media practitioners who participate as resource persons in various journalism events and programs organized by CMFR and its partner organizations around the world.
After the panel discussion, the Honorable Colin Townson of the Embassy of Canada presented Jodesz Gavilan as the Marshall McLuhan Fellow for 2023; while CMFR recognized the body of work of Mike Navallo with the Award of Distinction and a check of PHP50,000.00. The Embassy selects the McLuhan Fellow from the JVO Journalism Seminar panelists that CMFR lines up each year.
