Fellowships open to journalists

Two media fellowships are available for Filipino mid-career journalists:

2009 Asia Pacific Human Development Media Fellowship

A MEDIA FELLOWSHIP on gender issues in society is open to Filipino mid-career journalists. Deadline is on Sept. 1, 2009.

Journalists who have around five years of professional experience may apply for the 2009 Asia Pacific Human Development Media Fellowship, which will be awarded to candidates based on their research proposal. The project proposal may cover different media outputs like radio programs, short films, public service announcements, print media articles, cartoons, photo essays among others.

Organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the media fellowship titled “Gender: Overcoming Political, Legal and Economic Inequality” seeks to address questions concerning gender discrimination particularly in the Asia Pacific region.

Dart Asia Fellowship

SENIOR FILIPINO journalists and editors who want to deepen their knowledge of emotional trauma and improve coverage of violence, conflict and tragedy may apply for the inaugural Dart Asia Fellowship. Deadline is on Aug. 17, 2009.

The fellowship will run from Oct. 12 to 16, 2009. It is open to print, broadcast and online reporters, photographers, editors and producers with at least five years’ full-time journalism experience.
