PCIJ’s Investigative Reporting Seminar on Governance and Corruption

THE PHILIPPINE Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) is accepting applications for its training-seminar on Investigating Governance and Corruption from September 4 to 7 in Cebu City. Journalists, researchers, media personnel, citizen journalists, and bloggers covering public policy issues may apply.

Founded in 1989, PCIJ is an independent, nonprofit media agency specializing in investigative reporting. It funds investigative projects for print, broadcast and online media. Besides conducting seminars on journalism and public policy issues, PCIJ also publishes books and produces video documentaries.

PCIJ’s training seminar will discuss topics “by content peg” and “by skill set.”

Under the content peg category, participants will have the opportunity to learn about governance, corruption, the procurement process, access to information, and the fundamentals of investigative journalism, among others. Meanwhile, data journalism and investigative research methods, organizing and connecting documents and data and scrutinizing public documents are some of the topics in the skill set category.

PCIJ will cover board and lodging and participants’ round-trip transportation fares from their place of work and/or residence to the venue.

Interested applicants must accomplish this form and submit the following: a statement of motivation, two story proposals on governance and corruption, and 1-2 sample works. The application deadline is on August 12.
