THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S MEDIA FOUNDATION (IWMF) is now accepting applications for the 2016/17 Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship, which was created in memory of Boston Globe correspondent and IWMF Courage in Journalism Award winner Elizabeth Neuffer who died while reporting in Iraq in 2003.
The Fellowship aims to “provide women journalists with a transformative experience by offering them opportunities to complete research and coursework at leading academic institutions and build reporting skills through internships at major U.S.-based media outlets.” It is open to women journalists worldwide whose work focuses on human rights and social justice issues.
One woman journalist, affiliated or working freelance with at least three years of professional experience in journalism and working in print, broadcast, or digital media, will be selected to complete the seven-month program from August 29, 2016 to March 28, 2017.
The fellow will be based at the Center for International Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts as a research associate. She will be granted free access to MIT courses and other academic opportunities, along with internships in media outlets such as The Boston Globe and The New York Times.
Travel arrangements and in-country logistics will be handled by the IWMF. The Fellow will also receive a monthly stipend to cover housing, meals, and ground transportation, plus a health insurance during the program.
Online applications will be accepted until April 29, 2016. For other details, visit the Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship page.
