Road Safety Journalism Fellowship

The Road Safety Journalism Fellowship organized by the World Health Organization in collaboration with the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) and in partnership with VERA Files is now open for applications.

The Fellowship aims to strengthen the capacity of journalists to produce comprehensive and in-depth stories that promote road safety as a public health and development issue. The program is part of the multi-country Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety 2015-2019.

Metro Manila and Luzon-based journalists from print and broadcast media, freelance writers and bloggers may apply. Journalists with at least three years of professional experience should submit three story proposals that they plan to work on for the duration of the Fellowship. Selected fellows will produce a minimum of five stories or video productions that will be published in their own news organizations.

Other requirements are: an updated CV, two samples of published work, endorsement letter from an editor or producer, and an accomplished application form. Online applications will be accepted.

Media for Labor Rights 2015

The International Training Centre of the International Labor Organization (ITCILO) is accepting applications for the 2015 Media for Labor Rights Prize for Journalism.

The prize aims to disseminate information on international labor standards and the work of the international supervisory bodies, in turn raising public awareness of internationally recognized human rights at work and their relevance to social and development issues.

Journalists and media professionals from all over the world are qualified to join. Work submitted should be a 600-word feature or a 4-minute audio or video clip on labor rights. Entries should be in English or  accompanied by an English translation.

The winning entry will be featured on published materials of the ITCILO and ILO. A grant to attend a 2016 ITCILO course in Turin, Italy will also be awarded to the journalist.

The work should be submitted by e-mail to ils@itcilo.org by January 6, 2016, and should be accompanied by a short author biography of 10 lines maximum. For more details, visit this page.

Katigbak named ABS-CBN CEO and president

Carlo L. Katigbak, ABS-CBN Corporation’s current Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed as ABS-CBN’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and president effective January 1, 2016.

Katigbak began his career in Sky Cable in 1994. He handled various key positions which culminated in his appointment as Vice President for Provincial Operations in 1998.

In 1999, Katigbak was assigned to establish the internet business of ABS-CBN, serving as managing director of ABS-CBN Interactive. He was instrumental in helping the company in its technological ventures, handling the operations of services and products such as ABS-CBN Mobile and ABS-CBN TV Plus.

Charo Santos-Concio, current ABS-CBN CEO and president, will continue to serve the company as Chief Content Officer, president of ABS-CBN University, and executive adviser to the Eugenio Lopez III, chairman of the board of ABS-CBN.
