1st Save the Children-Philippines Media Awards

Save the Children, an international independent organization that has worked in the Philippines for three decades, is now accepting nominations to its first ever Save the Children Media Awards: Uncovering Child Hunger and Malnutrition.

The awards aim to recognize media materials highlighting hunger and malnutrition as urgent national concerns, and advocating their eradication. The categories are: 1) Most Outstanding Article, 2) Most Outstanding Photograph, and 3) Most Outstanding Short Film. Entries qualified for nomination are those produced from January 1, 2010 to September 13, 2015.

The most outstanding photograph and article will each receive a cash prize of PhP 20,000, while the most outstanding short film will be awarded PhP 30,000. A People’s Choice Award will also be given for each category, with a corresponding prize of PhP 10,000 each.

Thomson Reuters Course on Rural Poverty Reporting

Journalists with at least two years of professional experience and a good level of spoken and written English are invited to apply for the course “Reporting Rural Poverty and Agricultural Developmentā€ offered by the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

The course aims to gather journalists from the Asia-Pacific region to attend a workshop that will increase their knowledge of issues in rural communities such as small-scale agriculture, the demand for food, and rural development. The participants will also have the opportunity to attend the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)- organized ā€œInnovation for Rural Transformationā€ conference, where they will meet key policy influencers and stakeholders in rural development.

The workshop will be held in Bali, Indonesia from October 26 to 29. Air travel expenses, accommodations, local transfers, and meals will be shouldered by the organizers.

Interested applicants must submit the following requirements: 1) a short biography of up to 250 words, 2) two recent examples of published work, and 3) a cover letter of no more than 250 words stating why they want to attend the conference.
