Calling News Editors, Bloggers, Social Media Users: Public Service Announcements on the Killing of Journalists in the Philippines
As part of the Philippine campaign for November 23 as the first International Day to End Impunity (IDEI), the Freedom Fund for Freedom Fund Journalists (FFFJ) has produced three 30-second Public Service Announcements (PSAs), which we earnestly hope news editors, bloggers, and social media users could broadcast and upload online in the next 10 days to promote public awareness about journalist killings and the issues of impunity in our country.
CMFR hopes bloggers and social media users can use these PSAs on their blogs and networks, especially on the the IDEI Blog Action Day on Nov. 21, 2011.
Download our media kit for the Nov. 21 IDEI Blog Action Day here.
Two of the PSAs (CRIME SCENE and SHOOTING) were created by the winners of a multimedia competition for mass communication students in Metro Manila that FFFJ organized in 2010.
The third PSA (DYING FOR A STORY) was produced by Mr. Ed Lingao, Multimedia Director of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, a founding member of the FFFJ.
We believe that the widest dissemination of these PSAs will go a long way in raising not only awareness but also a deeper understanding of the problem and strengthen commitment of the media community and the citizens to join the struggle for justice by ending impunity.
Please join us in this effort.
The PSAs have been uploaded on www.mediafire.com. Each link, about 150-mb in file size, features broadcast-quality video that you can readily air on television or post on your news websites.
You may please download the PSAs from these links:

We hope you can air or upload these PSAs starting 12:01 am TUESDAY, NOV. 15, 2011, and for as long and as often as you wish to.
We request you, however, to please consider airing the PSAs particularly on Nov. 23, 2011, the second anniversary of the Maguindanao Massacre, which the world media community will also mark as International Day to End Impunity.
It would be vital to air and upload the PSAs up to the closing credits, which feature the logo of the International Day to End Impunity that will be led by the FFFJ in the Philippines, as well as by the International Freedom of Expression Exchange, the Southeast Asian Press Alliance, the Committee to Protect Journalists, the International Federation of Journalists, among others, through parallel activities across the globe.
