Call for Nominations: Gawad Agong sa Pamamahayag 2015

The Gawad Agong para sa Pamamahayag 2015 is now accepting nominations for exemplary reporting of issues concerning indigenous peoples in the Philippines.

Nominated journalists or media institutions should be based anywhere in the country, their corresponding work published in the Philippines. Their reports should have been published or aired from July 2014 to June 2015. Self-nomination is accepted.

The award categories are: Gawad Agong para sa Mamamahayag sa Radyo, Gawad Agong para sa Mamamahayag sa Print at Online, Gawad Agong para sa Mamamahayag para sa Balita sa Telebisyon, and Gawad Agong para sa Photojournalism.

Entries should include four hard copies each of the nomination form and the nominator’s form, and one digital copy of the report saved in a CD. The documents should be addressed to the Gawad Agong Secretariat, Rm. 304, NCCP Bldg., 879 EDSA, Brgy. West Triangle, Quezon City, Philippines 1101. Entries should be personally delivered or postmarked not later than midnight of August 14.

Finalists will be announced on October 5, and the awarding ceremonies will be held on October 16. For more information, visit the Gawad Agong page.

Journalist in Residence Program- Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies

The Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) in Germany is offering a three to six month- Journalist in Residence program for media practitioners whose work focus on science, mathematics and technology.

The application is open to both freelance and staff journalists working in print, broadcast, or online media. Interested applicants should submit a proof of journalistic work in the Science and Technology area, a presentation of the key areas of journalistic work, a plan of projects to be conducted during the stay at HITS, curriculum vitae (CV), and up to five relevant sample works. For staff journalists, a recommendation letter from the editor-in-chief or section head is also required.

During their stay, grant holders will receive an endowment of 5,000 euros per month and opportunities for 1) mutual exchange with the researchers at HITS and their collaborating institutions, 2) attendance inĀ a presentation or a seminar on science communication, and 3) collection of information about potential topics for own publications.
