4th Plaridel Excellence in Filipino-American Journalism Awards

The Philippine American Press Club (PAPC) USA is accepting entries to the 4th Plaridel Excellence in Filipino-American Journalism Awards in recognition of stories that provide outstanding and unique perspective on the issues concerning Filipino Americans.

Journalists whose articles or broadcast productions were published or aired in any Filipino-American based medium in the United States between June 1, 2014 to May 31, 2015 are welcome to send their entries. The categories are: Investigative Story, News Story, Personal Essay, Feature Writing, Profile Writing, Commentary/Editorial Essay, International Reporting, Entertainment, Food and Sports Stories, and Youth Voice (for age 16-26) for print and online articles; Community Reporting and Personality Profile for Television; Community Reporting for Radio; and Photojournalism and Tourism stories.

Submission deadline is on August 15, 2015. The awarding ceremonies will be held on October 8 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center in San Francisco, California. For more information, visit the Plaridel Awards page.

Cornell University Alliance for Science Journalism Fellowship

The Cornell University Alliance for Science is accepting applications for the first round of agricultural science journalism fellowships.

The fellowship aims to promote in-depth and comprehensive reporting on issues related to food security, crop production, biotechnology, and sustainable agricultural practices. Two fellowship tracks are offered: the individual track, which will award $5,000 to $15,000 to individual journalists, and the collaborative track, which will award $25,000 to a collaborative team composed of two individuals: one from a developing country and one from a developed country.

Application requirements such as applicant’s resume, samples of published work, description of proposed project, and budget estimate must be emailed in a single PDF file to allianceforsci@cornell.edu. For other details, visit the Alliance for Science Journalism Fellowship page.
