Arrest warrant out for journalist’s slay

AN ARREST warrant was issued by a local judge last 17 October against three suspects in the 28 February 2005 murder of columnist Arnulfo Villanueva in Cavite, about 30 kilometers south of Manila.

Judge Nerio Castigador of Naic Regional Trial Court Branch 15, ordered the arrest warrants against suspects who gunned down Cavite-based Asian Star Express Balita columnist Arnulfo Villanueva in 28 February 2005.

Villanueva, 43, was the first journalist murdered in 2005. CMFR later found out, through local media sources, that Villanueva was engaged in the fraudulent selling of guns. The suspect was believed to have bought a defective .38 caliber gun from Villanueva.

Supt. Elwin Fernandez, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection group (CIDG) in Cavite, said that he has already formed a team to go after the suspects who is now in hiding in Cavite.

“As far as we are concerned, this case is already solved. We are now focusing on the immediate arrest of the suspects,” Fernandez said.
