Inquirer.net names new publisher, editor in chief

Inquirer.net, Philippine Daily Inquirer online news portal, has named Abelardo Ulanday  publisher and John Nery editor in chief.

The online media outlet said on its website that Inquirer editors Ulanday and Nery assumed their new posts on July 26.

Ulanday is the associate editor of the Inquirer. He has been with the company since 1985 and  launched Inquirer Libre and Inquirer Compact. Ulanday was Inquirer.net’s editor in chief before he assumed his new post.

Nery is a columnist and editor of the Opinion section of the news publication. He was the first editor of Inquirer’s i-Team and executive producer of InqTV.

 

SEAPA names 6 fellows for 2014 Journalism Program

Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA), a non-profit, non-governmental organization campaigning for genuine press freedom in Southeast Asia, has announced the names of six journalists selected for its annual journalism fellowship program which will focus on impunity in journalist killings in the Philippines.

SEAPA’s journalism fellows for 2014 are:

  • Ms Alyaa Abdul Aziz Alhadjri of  theantdaily.com, Malaysia
  • Ms Nan Lwin Yadanar Aung of the Kumudra Weekly, Burma
  • Ms Eaint Khin eOo of VOA (Voice of America) – Burmese Section, Burma
  • Mr Kyaw Ye Lynn of Popular Myanmar News Journal, Burma
  • Mr Arpan Rachman of  Okezone.com, Indonesia
  • Mr Donny Sandjaya Suparman of Trans 7 TV, Indonesia

The fellows are “expected to write stories on the problem of impunity (in) journalist killings in the Philippines, the third deadliest country for journalists in the world.”

The program coincides with the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists and commemorates the fifth anniversary of the November 23, 2009 Ampatuan Massacre.
