Evaluating the programs of the Aquino gov’t

CHEERS TO ABS-CBN Corporation and GMA Network for keeping tabs on the performance of President Benigno S. Aquino III based on his campaign and inaugural promises as well as his past state of the nation addresses (SONA).

ABS-CBN 2’s “SONA Serye: Sa Gitna ng Daang Matuwid (Series on SONA: In the middle of the straight path)” was a five-part special report that looked into the fulfillment of Aquino’s social contract with the Filipino people. The report explained the importance of the fourth SONA and reviewed administration policies on public-private partnership projects, Philippine territorial disputes, the modernization of security forces, and the anti-poverty programs. While the discussion showed the increase in the Philippines’ credit rating, international recognition of the growth of the economy, and improving stock market and gross domestic product of the country, the report emphasized that ordinary citizens are not benefitting from the progress the government has been talking about. (TV Patrol, July 15 to 19)

abs-cbnNEWS.com maintains a webpage called “Midterm Assessment: The Aquino Promises Tracker” which hosts the articles of ABS-CBN News on the SONA, videos of the five-part special report, the speech of the President last July 22, and feedback from the people through social media and a poll grading the Aquino administration “in terms of delivery of specific promises, and if they, in local parlance, thought he did well (‘aprub’), did good enough (‘ayos lang’), or failed (an’yare?).”

GMA-7’s “Pangako ni PNoy (PNoy’s promises)” was a two part-report on peace and order as well as the economy. The first part discussed Aquino’s promise of peace in Mindanao, particularly  on the Bangsamoro Framework Agreement and the reaction of stakeholders. The report also addressed the growth of the economy and continuing inequality as well as the environment, particularly the issues of mining and climate change.
